California power trio Ides Of Gemini have just finished recording their full-length debut for Neurot Recordings at Sunset Lodge in Los Angeles. The band features Sera Timms of L.A. psych-doom masters Black Math Horseman on bass and vocals, Terrorizer scribe J. Bennett on guitar, and Kelly Johnston on drums.

Entitled 'Constantinople,' the album was co-produced by the band and Sunset Lodge owner Chris Rakestraw, who engineered the most recent albums from Danzig, Skeletonwitch and Trash Talk. "Rakestraw is the man," says J.. "For some reason, he's one of the best-kept secrets in heavy music. If nothing else, I hope the Ides album will change that."
Scheduled for a May release, 'Constantinople' will feature nine songs, including re-recorded selections from the band's acclaimed 2010 demo EP, 'The Disruption Writ.' "We wanted to re-do those songs in a proper studio, and with real drums," J. explains. "The drums on the EP were programmed by Sera, though many people didn't realise it. That's how good of a job she did. It was totally worth it, though: Kelly's drums sound huge on this record."
When asked what the album sounds like, the guitarist would say only this: "Expect some black metal, some doom rock, a military waltz, plenty of dark atmosphere and lots of vocal harmonies."
The vinyl version of 'Constantinople' will be released via Sige, the label created by Aaron Turner (ex-ISIS) and Faith Coloccia of Mammifer. J. went on to reveal that the album's title track will not actually appear on the album itself. "The song 'Constantinople,' which we've been closing our live shows with, is gonna come out on a split 12-inch that we're doing with a black metal band from Belgium called Vermapyre. As far as I know, nobody has released an album in which the title track appears on another release. Although I imagine somebody reading this will come up with an example to prove me wrong."
Look for the Ides of Gemini /Vermapyre split 12-inch in February via Magic Bullet Records. 'Constantinople' will follow in May on Neurot. J. also says that the band plans to unveil a 7-inch featuring a song from 'Constantinople' and a "highly unlikely" cover song prior to the album's release.
