Spires tour blog #6: Cheap Polish lager, strip clubs and tumbleweed

Part 6 of Spires' tour blog for Terrorizer after their show at The Peel in Kingston, today involving cheap cans of Polish lager, strip clubs, and tumbleweed.
GIGS PLAYED: 5
MILES TRAVELLED: 650
TRAVELODGE ROOMS DOUBLE BOOKED: 1
We're back on the road after a couple of days at home and once again we have hit the jackpot on our UK Travelodge
tour. Despite having to wait downstairs for it to be cleaned, this has to be the biggest room yet, the maid has
brought extra tea and coffee, and the pinnacle on the cake is that we're here for two nights. Welcome to Reading!
Last night's gig was at the Peel in Kingston, which is a venue we previously played on our mini tour with Talanas
over the Summer. Nice little venue, which just happens to be joined to a strip club. Unfortunately, mainly due to
a lack of local support act it turned out to be slightly under attended (a farmer, his sheep dog, couple of bails
of tumbleweed and a wind machine) but some gigs will inevitably be that way, and you've just got to laugh it off
and play your guts out as best you can. Still, worth doing, and thanks to the people who did turn up (nice one Ed).
Special mention should also go to Duff from Talanas for amusing us as always with his drunken antics, in particular
his extreme stack off the stage!
After an existential drive to Reading, we checked in and drowned our sorrows. Or more accurately summoned a
Tsunami to wash over them. Every venue we play at seems to have an off-licence selling stroooong Polish cans for
under a quid directly opposite. A feature I didn't expect to occur on the Southern leg (see previous blog), but
one that I'm happy to abuse.
Despite the ever present grogginess, tonight's gig at the Face Bar promises to be a goodun; 5 bands on the bill,
good promotion and a general good buzz about it. Tomorrow the tour hits Derby, playing alongside 101% Pantera
(a tribute band), at the Old Bell. Right, we're off to the pub, more tomorrow.
Cheers,
Paul & Spires
