Paul Bostaph leaves Testament, starts band with ex-Anthrax singer Dan Nelson

Testament frontman Chuck Billy has confirmed to Terrorizer that Paul Bostaph has left the thrash giants' drumstool.
Currently working on their new album ‘The Dark Roots Of Earth' - which features Gene Hoglan on drums - Paul has been out of action due to a "serious injury" and unable to record or tour.
However Chuck explains to Terrorizer that Paul has decided to step down permanently, leaving the Californian crew to look at recruiting a new member.
"We just found our last week Paul Bostaph is not coming back to the band, he's starting his own new project and doing some things on his own. So we're actually going to be holding a couple of auditions with probably small group of drummers that we chose - we don't want to have a revolving drum stool, we have a new record we want a permanent drummer."
Paul's new project, says Chuck, is called Black Gates and also features former Anthrax vocalist Dan Nelson, who took part in the original sessions for latest album 'Worship Music'. Chuck says the split with their stick-man is amicable.
"We're still buddies, it's just that Paul feels at this point in his career he wants to be in a little more in control of the artistic creation of the songs and with his new project they are all involved with that process whereas with our group Eric [Peterson] is pretty much the main songwriter and that's just the way its been with us for 25 years."
Testament's tenth studio album, the follow up to 2008's absolutely brilliant 'The Formation Of Damnation', is being produced by Andy Sneap and is due for release via Nuclear Blast on April 27, 2012.
Gene previously played on Testament's 1997 release ‘Demonic' and has just completed the band's US tour with Anthrax and Death Angel.
Lamb Of God's Chris Adler also plays one track on ‘The Dark Roots...'.
