Judas Priest's 'The Chosen Few' - the Terrorizer version
By Tom on Sep 19, 2011 | In News, Fun
With the news that Judas Priest are releasing 'The Chosen Few' - a "best-of" hand picked by some of their peers and biggest fans from the generation of bands that followed them, from Ozzy Osbourne and Lemmy to Kerry King and Randy Blythe - we at Terrorizer thought we would have a go at putting together our own selection. Here's the result.
The rules are simple - one track pick per contributor, and you have to explain why.
Louise Brown
'Night Crawler'. This song was on a compilation called Red Hot Metal that my boyfriend nicked and gave to me. It changed my life and this song was the catalyst for me to delve into the Priest world. I've always been one for melodrama and when Rob spookily croons "huddled in the cellar, fear caught in their eyes" I'm just won over completely and utterly

Without a second's thought, 'Painkiller'. It's Judas Priest showing the younger generation how you play really fucking fast and really heavy while still being yourself and having hooks bigger than on a whale's bra strap. It's the Metal Gods being godlike. Again. Also because Joe Satriani chose it, and who am I to argue with him?
Marek Steven
'Cheater'. It still slays and it was one of the first heavy metal tracks I was obsessed with when super young. Even now I get chills from the lyrics. The classic blues theme of love going wrong given a heavy metal viciousness!
Adrien Begrand
Freewheel Burning". It wasn't the first Priest song I heard, but it was the one that made me a fan in 1984. That whole "Lookbeforeyouleaphasneverbeenthewaywekeepourroadisfree" line, the delivery of it, just blew me away.
Ed Chapman
'Rapid Fire' - fast, great solos, and so metal they had to invent a new word to express it all ('desolisating').
Nathan Carson
Anything off 'Sin After Sin', but particularly 'Sinner' because of young session drummer Simon Phillips' contributions. He came on board 4 days before the album was tracked and is responsible for the best drumming and most dynamic/fluid Priest material ever. They were never funky again after this. It's an early high water mark in metal and really helped modernize the form. Too bad they couldn't keep Simon Phillips on the throne.
Jimmy Martin
'Metal Meltdown' just for its sheer awesome audacity. I remember first hearing it on the Friday Rock Show and actually laughing out loud at how ludicrous and amazing it managed to be both at once.
Obviously Priest have more great songs than there are of us (we could have a rugby union match, including replacements and officials, picking their favourites and we still wouldn't have them all) so we're going to need you to help. Come over to the Terrorizer facebook page and cast your vote for your favourite Priest song and lend us your Priest love.
We'll let you know the final tracklisting (our seven, plus the top ten from the poll) next week. Remember to leave a comment as to why your favourite is brilliant, and you might find yourself going on the finished article.
