SONISPHERE BLOG DAY THREE: OPETH HEX THE SKIES

It was promised to be sunny skies all day at Sonisphere but there is something quite apt about the heavens opening as Opeth launch into 'Hex Omega'. It's a stunning show from the progtastic Swedes, and even if they're claiming to go all out on the prog front (this from a man in a Comus t-shirt) on new album Heritage, they still bring a tonne of riffs to the Saturn Stage AND give us some 'Deliverance' love to boot.
After the Terry Nutkins of alternative comedy, Bill Bailey namechecked them in the Metro Newspaper last week, Mikael was obviously channelling his inner comic in tribute, lavishing us with his ridiculous wit. After he moons the crowd (he's got a good butt - this must be noted) he tells all he's from Switzerland and a clock-maker - hence his good timing. He also lampoons his love of lengthy opuses (opii?).
But although he's a funny fucker it's all about the music and the band are on fire - it may have rained but instead of running for cover we were transfixed and can't wait to hear the new album... which, not to rub it in, we get to hear tomorrow so make sure you check back for our thoughts
